End of March

Our March came in like a lamb and truly left like a lion.  The winds were ferocious!  I was even a little scared driving home from the grocery store on the 31st.  The wreath I made over with apple blossoms survived the wind, and isn't the welcome mat just darling?  The only bad thing about it is that I cringe when I wipe my feet.  Peter is too precious!

Baking and Sewing

This week for dessert, I made something not so sweet -- orange cranberry bread.  I needed something fast and not too much fuss, and since we're nearing Easter, I wanted something not overly sweet.  Soon everything will be candy and decadent desserts!  After baking, I took the two loaves out of the oven, let them sit in the pan for about 10 minutes, and then turned them out onto the cooling rack.  My older boy immediately asked for a couple of pieces.  Really he appeared at just that moment!! I hate cutting freshly cooked, still hot loaves, but how could I say no?

Those loaves were baked on Friday, and later that day, I took the carton of strawberries that were past their prime and made a simple strawberry syrup in anticipation of the German pancake we planned on making Saturday morning.  This is a good recipe, but I did cook them a lot longer than just 10 minutes.  Also the syrup is not thick, but it tastes absolutely fantastic!  And it was so good over a slice of pancake topped with fresh strawberries, blackberries, and powdered sugar.  Oh my goodness it was so good!!!

And now, I'm going to spend the rest of this Sunday afternoon sewing some napkins for a springtime table.  I'm using up leftover fabric from my stash, so the napkins vary in size; but the patterns and colors are so pretty and they will still be useful!  After cutting the fabric on Wednesday, I spent a lot of time just pressing and folding some of the fabric to miter the corners.  I didn't even get to start sewing!  So I decided yesterday if I wanted these napkins done before Easter, I was going to have to just fold and press them and stitch a hem.  Who cares if they have mitered corners?  No one who sits at my table, that's who!

Return to Blogging

Yesterday I grew so frustrated with both Instagram and Facebook that I was this close to deleting my accounts (again....for the fifth time).  If I wanted to watch short videos, I'd download TikTok or go suffer through the frenetic shorts on YouTube.  But alas, how else to keep in touch with family?  Facebook.  As for  Instagram, it was at one time a great place for enjoying pictures, but even with following just two "calm" accounts, my feed is inundated with short videos, both ads and suggested accounts to follow.

So what does that have to do with this blog?  It's a reminder to myself when I want to go back to Instagram that it's chaotic and no longer akin to thumbing through a magazine filled with pretty pictures.  As far as Facebook goes, it will just have stay.  I miss far too much from my family and friends, and the last time I blogged, only three people from Facebook actually looked at my blog.

So won't you please consider yourself welcome and stop by for a brief respite from the outside world and enjoy future posts about food, family, faith, homemaking, and nature?  If only one person reads this blog it will be fantastic; and if no one reads this blog, that's fantastic too!  If nothing else, it will serve for me the purpose of an online scrapbook of sorts.   And I solemnly promise, I rarely complain and this blog will not become a soapbox for me to bemoan how bad social media has become and how short attention spans must be these days.
